I'm not sure what I'm going to do, Madam.....

So said Denis our builder, when we went down to Songalendu this week to see where he was building a new house. Denis had to move out of his house back in June this year, when it was overtaken by flood waters. He purchased a small plot, about 500m further back inland. After all, that was a long way away, right?

Wrong! Now, 5 months later, he's in the position whereby he is beginning to build a new house, but the waters again are only about 30m away. He's only just begun to build the frame. And he's arguing with the one he paid money to that he hasn't built yet, and wants his money back. But of course, that person is ignoring him, and a dozen others in a similar position living around him.

So he will lose money on this land. And have to buy more land further inland again. At a much higher cost. And is faced once again with the question/dilemma everyone is facing ..... how far inland will the waters go? Where will they stop? Will they recede, or will these now-covered landmasses be totally irreclaimable?

And this is the reality for at least another 10 Amari staff and school families. While a number of others are currently in the process of moving and resettling, or are waiting anxiously to see what is happening as the waters keep creeping closer to their residences.
